Another Enyobeni Tavern tragedy survivor has shared a video of what was transpiring at the chill spot minutes before tragedy struck.

Twenty-one young people died in the early hours of 26 June 2022 at the tavern in East London, and the South African Police Service is still baffled as to what caused the deaths. Disturbing images from the tragic scene show people with no visible injuries lying lifeless on top of chairs and tables and some strewn all over the floor.

Police Minister Bheki Cele said the youngest victim of the #EnyobeniTavern tragedy is 13 years old, while everyone who passed away at the Scenery Park tavern is between 13 and 17. Minister Cele broke down and wailed as he tried addressing the crowd just after witnessing the dead revelers at the tavern.

A young man at the spot shared a video of the scene minutes before he left and before people died. In the video, the tavern was filled to the brim, and the young people had the time of their lives.

They sang along to the group of artists performing on the stage. The people in the video are visibly young, as they had an end-of-term party.

The survivor, Brian, said:

Because a lot of people died people are expecting some major reason for the deaths whereas people died cause they couldn’t breathe we were stuck at one place with no air coming just breathing in pepper spray, some even fell down and never got back up just got stepped on.

Another survivor on Facebook detailed what happened at #EnyobeniTavern:

This is exactly what happened nothing more nothing less. People suffocated and started collapsing. It was very hard to breathe in that small place by the door with pepper spray even. I got pulled out losing my breath yabo eNyobeni is not having enough security by the dor imagine two people stopping 100s of people pushing back and forth cause some wanted to come in by force while others wanted to get out ASAP due to pepper spray
