Agent Updates On Kodisang To Chiefs Talks

The future of Kobamelo Kodisang and a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs is in the hands of SC Braga, his agent Mike Makaab has stated.

Kodisang, who has returned to Portugal after a short off-season break in South Africa saw his two-year option activated by the Portuguese top-flight outfit but it remains unclear whether he will be a part of the first-team plans next season under new head coach Arthur Jorge after Carlos Carvahal left the club for Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League.

Chiefs expressed their interest in the South Africa youth international who made his league debut in South Africa at the tender age of 15 at the now-defunct Platinum Stars but the deal was set back after he was no longer available as a free agent.

Makaab, of ProSport International, confirmed that they informed Braga that if they plan to send him back to the reserve team or on loan to a second-division club, they will look to take him back to South Africa ot another top-flight club either on loan or permanently and an outcome is likely within the next week.

Speaking on Gagasi FM; Makaab went on to confirm that Amakhosi have been the only club they have opened talks within this current transfer window regarding Kodsiang but stressed that any potential deal is out of their hands as things stand.

“If [Kodisang’s] opportunity is with the Braga first-team, one of the top four teams in Portugal, then he’s happy to continue with his career in Portugal,” Makaab said.

“But if he is expected to play another season in the reserve team or want to loan him to another lower-division team in Portugal – that’s where we’ve made it absolutely clear we’re digging our heels and won’t allow that.

“The player would be open to a move in South Africa or to another top club in Portugal. We will never use one football club to raise the value of a player for another football club to become interested in. I can categorically state the only club we have engaged in South Africa is Kaizer Chiefs and that’s the status as it stands right now.

“The difficulty is not the player, Chiefs or with us – it lies with how Braga sees ‘KK’s future and we hoping to escalate that discussion and come to some sort of agreement with him as to where ‘KK’ is going to be this season.”

Kodisang has scored 16 goals in 55 games for Braga B since joining the club from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits but was scouted during a loan switch at third-tier Portuguese side Sanjoanense back in the 2018/19 season.
