Social media trolls Itumeleng Khune as he vows to return to the field

The 35-year-old soccer veteran, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is hoping to return to the football pitch after sitting out much of the past few seasons at the premier club.

But fans are politely asking the player – who first joined Kaizer Chiefs on 1 July 2004 – to officially hang up his boots.

After celebrating his 35th birthday earlier this week – and getting trolled for his aging looks – Itumeleng Khune hit the Twitter streets with a vengeance.

The seasoned goalie is currently in pre-season training with Kaizer Chiefs. However, the father-of-two has been warming the benches in favour of younger star Bruce Bvuma.

After being urged to seek a “loan move” away from the Soweto giants, Itumeleng Khune made his feelings known about his future at the club in a social media post.

Tagging Kaizer Chiefs, he tweeted on Thursday 24 June: “I didn’t come this far to only come this far. Hardwork & dedication #TeamNoRest”.

But whilst many Kaizer Chiefs fans reminisced about Itumeleng Khune’s “glory days”, others told him to retire from playing soccer.
