  • Two legal practitioners in Mpumalanga have been arrested for alleged fraud, theft and money laundering involving R14 million.
  • The suspects, who are related, are accused of deceiving a businessperson and attempting to conceal the funds.
  • They are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court as investigations continue.

The Hawks in Mpumalanga have arrested two well-known legal practitioners on charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering dating back to 2021.

The pair was arrested on Monday, 13 April 2026, following information uncovered during an investigation.

A 40-year-old woman, who is the daughter-in-law of her 73-year-old co-accused, allegedly defrauded a businessperson of approximately R14 million under the pretense of facilitating a business sale in Nelspruit.

Investigations revealed that the funds were deposited into the bank account of the male suspect, her father-in-law, in what is believed to have been an attempt to conceal the proceeds of the alleged crime.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi said the pair is expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court, where their identities will be revealed.

“A lengthy and detailed investigation was conducted, during which investigators followed the financial trail, ultimately leading to the arrest of the two suspects,” said Nkosi.

The female suspect had previously been arrested in connection with similar, unrelated cases.
