  • Two suspects have been arrested after the body of a six-year-old girl was found buried in a shallow grave in Gqeberha.
  • The suspects were tracked down in Makhanda and brought back for questioning.
  • They are expected to appear in court on murder charges.

Two people have been arrested following the discovery of the body of a six-year-old girl, who was buried in a shallow grave in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

The child’s body was found at St George’s Beach on Friday after detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit tracked down two suspects in Makhanda and brought them back to Gqeberha for questioning.

The suspects are a 25-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man.

Police spokesperson Nobuntu Ganatana said the identity of the six-year-old girl will be confirmed and made public once formal identification processes have been completed.

Both suspects are facing a charge of murder and are expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 April 2026.
