  • The Ndimande brothers have unexpectedly abandoned their bail application during a brief appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
  • The pair were recently extradited from Eswatini following a prolonged legal struggle to bring them to South Africa.
  • The case is postponed to 17 April, when the brothers will be formally joined to the five other suspects accused of the dual murder.

Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, the two brothers linked to the high-profile murders of rapper AKA and celebrity chef Tibz, have abandoned their application for bail.

Appearing briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, the pair made a last-minute decision to remain in custody pending trial.

The brothers were extradited from Eswatini in November following a protracted legal battle.

This move to forfeit bail comes after they previously dropped their opposition to the extradition process, effectively clearing the way for the South African justice system to proceed with the primary murder charges.

The court has postponed the matter until 17 April. On this date, the Ndimande brothers will be served with indictments, officially joining them to the five other accused individuals.

The group is expected to stand trial later this year for the February 2023 shooting outside the Wish restaurant in Durban.

The killings of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane sent shockwaves through the country, and the upcoming trial is anticipated to be one of the most significant criminal proceedings in recent South African history.
