The Jomo Cosmos case against Hungry Lions will be heard next week, Premier Soccer League (PSL) prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed.

Cosmos launched a case to the PSL alleging the Hungry Lions fielded an eligible player for ten games which could result in a 15 points deduction if the Northern Cape outfit is found guilty.

As a result, Ezenkosi could return and retain their GladAfrica Championship status while Hungry Lions would finish 16th in the league and relegate back to the ABC Motsepe League after just one season in the professional ranks.

iDiski Times reported earlier on Thursday that the case involved former Cosmos academy player Tshepo Mohlala, who spent two seasons with Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve team before being sent out on loan to the second-tier club and is alleged to still be registered with the club due to him not receiving official clearance.

Jomo Breaks Silence On Hungry Lions Case

“I can confirm that yesterday I preferred charges of misconduct pursuant to a complaint lodged by Jomo Cosmos Football Club against Hungry Lions Football Club,” Majavu confirmed in an official statement.

“The allegations which are the substance of the complaint by Jomo Cosmos is that a player by the name of Mr Tshepo Mohlala was a defaulter and therefore feel that in circumstances where he was not eligible to be fielded by Hungry Lions, because this matter came before the office of the prosecutor by way of a complaint, in accordance with the rules of the league.

“The onus to prosecute the complaint rests on the complainant club. In this case, it rests on Jomo Cosmos. Upon receipt of such a complaint, and upon the prosecutor is satisfied that the initial procedural requirements are met in accordance with the rules, the prosecutor is enjoined to enrol this matter for hearing, at which hearing the responsibility to prosecute the complaint to then pass on to the complainant themselves.

“In the light thereof, this matter has been an enrol for hearing on the 27th of June 2022, at half-past five at the offices of the league.”

Majavu went on to state that an announcement of the pending DC case will be made shortly after the sitting.
