In a candid interview on Wednesday, 8 April, AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes, opened up about almost everything related to her late son on L‑Tido’s podcast.

According to L-Tido, it was Lynn who reached out to him because she felt “stuff had to be said,” and boy, did she have quite a lot to say!

It was really cool and thoughtful of L-Tido to wear a pair of AKA’s sneakers from the 2024 Reebok range, especially since Lynn was there and AKA was his first guest on the podcast.

He said, “It’s the first time I’m wearing these shoes out. [but] I had to wear them today”.

AKA’S MOTHER SHARED HER TRUTH ON L-TIDO’S PODCAST

In March 2026, AKA’s last girlfriend, Nadia Nakai, expressed her wish to move on and find new love, stating, “I don’t want to love a ghost”.

Her words clearly implied that she wants to close the AKA chapter following his passing in February 2023.

While some felt her reference to AKA as a ghost was a bit insensitive, Lynn, who knows Nadia personally, explained that she was not offended by her comment and they “had a good laugh [about it].”

“Nadia and I had a good laugh… I know Nadia, so I’m like, okay, don’t worry about it. It’s fine. They don’t understand you,” said Lynn.

LYNN FORBES: ‘MY SON LITERALLY LOOKED AFTER ME’

Clearly, AKA had no issues about fulfilling his lion’s share of black tax for his dearest mother.

Lynn revealed that the Baddest hitmaker provided her with a monthly allowance and that “I depended on my son for a lot of things.”

“My son literally looked after me. I mean, he was my bank. Kiernan and I had a life together. I depended on my son for a lot of things, for the roof over my head, for the food on my table,” she said.

‘IN FACT, IT’S ME’

Have you ever wondered who keeps managing AKA’s social media accounts? Well, it is none other than Lynn. Although she works within a team, she is ultimately responsible for the publishing.

One of the most annoying comments in the DM’s is when people say, “let the guy rest” or “they’re milking him.” However, Lynn has an honourable perspective.

This was in reference to the latest merch, which includes premium t-shirts, hoodies, and more.

“Whatever comes out on the AKA social media pages is approved by the family. It’s us. In fact, it’s me.”

“There’s [sic] two streams here. There’s Kiernan, the family member, and there’s AKA, who’s a brand and a business. And that business continues … we have a legacy to take forward,” she affirmed.

‘I LITERALLY SCREAMED’

During the ongoing Madlanga Commission inquiry, they played the CCTV footage of AKA and his former manager, Tebello Tibz Motsoane, getting shot.

Lynn voiced her disappointment, saying that had she known the clip would be aired, she wouldn’t have watched the trial at all.

“This video came from a different angle, and it was something I didn’t expect to see [while] watching the Madlanga Commission,” she said.

“I literally screamed; I was in tears. It was very traumatising[traumatic]. I wish they could have said we’re going to show the AKA murder, then I probably wouldn’t have watched it,” she added.

‘CASSPER CAME TO SEE US’

The beef between AKA and Cassper was one of the biggest in the South African entertainment industry.

However, that didn’t prevent the Tito Mboweni hitmaker from extending his condolences to the Forbes family.

“When Kiernan died, Cassper came to see us. He brought his condolences.”

‘HE PAID FOR A HEART TRANSPLANT’

“I had somebody that [who] reached out to say that Kiernan paid for a heart transplant,” said Lynn.

At the beginning of the show, Lynn admitted to feeling nervous, but she spoke her truth in the best way she could.

L-Tido also conducted the interview exceptionally well, asking relevant questions while remaining professional.
