Egypt Legend Shehata Makes Bold Pitso Statement

Legendary former Egypt head coach Hassan Shehata has hailed Pitso Mosimane as ‘one of the greatest coaches’ and opened up on his surprise Al Ahly exit.

Shehata, 74, is widely considered one of the greatest managers in African football history due to his exploits with the Egypt national team between 2004 and 2011.

He won three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles with the national team and is one of only two coaches who have won the title three times in the competition’s history.

And he’s had high praise for the South African who left the Red Devils this month after winning five major trophies, four months short of a two-year stint in Cairo.

“Mosimane in the last few weeks was not fully focused, he moved away from the team during his time in Morocco, and this matter was difficult,” he said in an interview with Sada Al-Balad when asked about the form that dropped in the final few weeks of his tenure.

“Certain things did not give him the right to continue with Al Ahly, I consider him one of the greatest coaches and he did a great job with Al Ahly, but the things that were offered to him from Qatar made him think a lot and the things [he said in the media], this cost him a lot.”

The three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and South Africa, with his agent confirming interest from three clubs.
