Well-known singer Samthing Soweto left social media users rallying behind him after revealing his struggle with depression.

The Happy Birthday hitmaker, whose real name is Samkelo Mdolomba, took to social media to share about how it had affected him.

He also shared that all the love from fans had shown him that he was a great musician.

“I’m sorry for the silence. I thought I was whack, but today I only discovered how dope I am. #depression,” he wrote.

His tweet saw many people reminding him how good of a musician he was.

Katiso said he needed him to remember who he was.

“Samkelo, I’m gonna need you to remember that you are Samthing Soweto. You are. No one else,” he wrote.

Then Lessy Leseg commented: “You are Samthing Soweto, the best vocalist to ever emerge from Souda; a trendsetter, hitmaker. Whack is not in your vocab.”

Millicent Mashimbye said she loved the musician.

“We love you as Samkelo. We love you as Samthing Soweto. You are an amazing human being and a great artist,” she wrote.

Another user Frwontou wrote: “The amapiano vocal pioneer? The guy that made it cool to showcase vocal ability in amapiano? The guy that wrote Nana Thula, one of the best amapiano songs, and gave it to somebody? Look around, you’ve inspired a whole generation – every young Afropop artist has your influence.”

The musician drastically lost weight in the past months, leaving his fans worried. People had been asking what was wrong with him and he finally addressed the issue, sharing that he was going through something.

“You guys are not wrong, I am going through a lot. Thank you for your concern and support. But at the same time, you guys are not right either. I am not dying,” he said at the time.

Over the past few months, other celebrities including Lasizwe Dambuza, K Naomi and Makhadzi opened up about their struggles with depression.
