Mayambela eyeing Portuguese Primeira Liga return with Farense | Breaking News

S.C Farense attacker Mihlali Mayambela is confident that his team will return to the Portuguese top league next season after the side performed well towards the end of the just-ended campaign accumulating 13 points in six matches.

The good run saw the team finishing 11th on Liga Portugal 2 log standings, clearly showing their ambitions ahead of the new season.

“It’s been a tough season, it’s been a rollercoaster ride, but we managed to pull up and finish on a good note. We were disappointed because we didn’t achieve our target of making a return to the top tier league,” Mayambela told FARPost.

“The second half of the season was great, I believe we had a good run. I am sure the positivity in the squad was because of the change in the technical team, a new coach came in, and that’s when we started getting good results. Now it’s the offseason we just have to rest and regroup, then prepare for the next season which I believe will be a challenging one because of the goals we have set and want to achieve.

“I see myself playing in the Portuguese top league, my aim is to help my team achieve great things like gaining promotion. Next season we’ll be definitely fighting for promotion, we belong at the top league, that’s where we should be playing. The team is capable, ready and in high spirits, hopefully we’ll start the new season on a high note; the same way we finished the just ended season.”

The 25-year-old revealed that he is not pressured about being left out of Bafana squad, but believes his chance will come and he will honour the opportunity.

“I’m not worried or under pressure by my exclusion at Bafana honestly, I’m focusing on my club football and helping my team achieve great things. But if I get an opportunity and I’m called to represent my country, I will honour it and do my best. It’s every player’s dream to wear their country’s colours and play for the nation,” he concluded.
