Qatari giants Al Sadd have announced Juan Manuel Lillo as their new head coach after the sacking of Javi Gracia this week.

Gracia, who replaced FC Barcelona legend Xavi earlier this season lasted just 22 games in charge of the club and was relieved of his duties after a run of 16 wins, two draws and four defeats.

And despite winning the league, the decision came after their semi-final league cup exit and failing to progress from the AFC Champions League group stage.

Former Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane, who represented the club in 1996 was subsequently linked with the vacancy at Al Zaeem but they’ve moved swiftly to secure a successor.

Less than 24 hours after Gracia’s exit was announced Lillo was confirmed as the new leader and will arrive in Qatar on Sunday before signing a contract and his official unveiling.

The Spanish coach leaves his role as assistant coach of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City after two seasons in the Premier League.
