Rich Mnisi’s R799 tie collection sparks mixed reactions online

Rich Mnisi has introduced a bold new tie collection under his fashion label, but while some admire the creativity, others are questioning both the design and the price tag.

The designer unveiled the range on Instagram, presenting five distinct pieces that move away from traditional styles.

Known for pushing boundaries, Mnisi described the collection as more than just accessories, positioning each tie as a form of artistic expression.

“The tie, reimagined. Introducing five distinctive RICH MNISI ties, each one a collectable expression of form, story, and identity. From fluid motion and bold geometry to florals, texture, and the human silhouette, every piece transforms a classic essential into something deeply expressive. Designed to be worn, kept and remembered,” the brand shared.

Retailing at R799 each, the ties feature unconventional designs including a yellow fish, animal textures, florals and even human-inspired imagery, elements that reflect Mnisi’s signature approach to fashion as storytelling.

While Instagram users largely praised the creativity and uniqueness of the collection, reactions on X told a different story.

Many users expressed skepticism, with some saying the designs were too bold for everyday wear, especially in formal settings.

“Yoh, imagine rocking a tie ya marago in a serious boardroom meeting,” one user wrote.

Others pointed out that the collection may not appeal to everyone. “We are not the target market,” another commented.

Some questioned the practicality and styling, with one user saying, “I would rather have my name written instead,” while another added, “Imagine wearing an unclothed man tie during interviews.”

The price also became a talking point, with mixed views emerging.

“R799 is not bad if you have RAF!” one user joked, while another reflected on affordability, saying, “R800 tie on a R68 shirt? I am not the target market. These are nice ties, but the label for some must not be visible.”
