Comedy lovers are in for a treat, as Is’thembu Sika Msongelwa makes its return on Mzansi Magic. This is after the popular three-part season one.

The highly anticipated comedy drama series centred around Msongelwa Khumalo, a businessman and traditionalist who enters into a polygamous marriage, will be taking over the 8pm slot on Mondays from April 6.

Is’thembu Sika Msongelwa is set in KwaZulu-Natal and follows Msongelwa’s life with his four wives, each from different backgrounds and with individual aspirations.

Starring Andile Mxakaza, Nosipho Phehlo, Nompumelelo Vilakazi, Phumzile Mlangeni and Thandeka Shange, season 2 of the comedy-drama will be four parts. Viewers can expect laughter and drama as the polygamous taxi boss reconnects with his high school sweetheart, leaving his three wives far from happy about his new love affair.

As reported by Glamour, Andile described the show as both challenging and deeply personal, highlighting how the series portrays polygamy not just as a lifestyle, but as complex spiritual journey.

“This show really stands out because it explores both the beauty and the difficulty of polygamy. It shows just how complex these relationships can be. At its core, it’s a reminder: if you’re not fully committed to that life, don’t enter it. Msongelwa is learning this the hard way – he’s already deep in it and now he’s dealing with the consequences.”

“Polygamy to me, is a spiritual struggle. I can relate to that personally. There was a time in my life when I considered it, but about five years ago I had a vision that made it clear – polygamy is not my path,” said Andile.

Andile briefly shared that Msongelwa will always be seen as a torn man, between his wives and his sweetheart.

“Through him, viewers see both the appealing and the painful sides of polygamy but for Msongelwa, it often ends in conflict. He’s torn between his wives, his desires and his identity.”

He also added how he appreciated the creative freedom which came with his role.

“I was trusted to fully explore the character and push my performance. As an actor, that’s everything. It allowed me to pour myself into the role and elevate every scene. That kind of creative space is rare and I think audiences will feel that energy in Season 2,” he said.

Taking to his Instagram page, Andile shared a trailer of Is’thembu Sika Msongelwa.
