AmaTuks Coach On PlayOff Heartbreak

University of Pretoria head coach Tlisane Motaung has opened up on the heartbreak of missing out on DStv Premiership promotion.

AmaTuks started the Premier Soccer League (PSL) playoffs like a house on fire when they smashed Cape Town All Stars by 3-1 in Cape Town.

Everything looked to be running smoothly for the Pretoria-based side going to the last game of the campaign as the only side yet to taste a defeat in the playoffs.

Motaung’s side needed just one point in their last game when they faced Swallows FC to make a return to top-flight football after six years but a solitary goal from defender Yaagan Sasman was enough to save ‘The Dube Birds’.

Motaung expressed his disappointment when he spoke with the media after the game and went on to say not winning at home was a major thing that made them to be where they are today following to draws at TUKS Stadium against Igugu leKapa and AmaSwaiSwai.

“Extremely disappointing but we knew it’s playoffs it can go either way, we thought we got it, especially in terms of how we started, but I still believe that the two draws that we had at home were major blows, we could have at least get one win out of those two, it’s an extremely major disappointment from our side,” he said in the post-match press conference.

With playoffs being played by the team that finished 15th in the DStv Premiership and two sides that finished second and third in the GladAfrica Championship, the Tuks mentor was asked does he see it fair for a team finished second in the second division to compete in the playoffs.

“It’s rules every club is aware that there’s a rule like that and I don’t think it’s a right platform for me obviously to comment on the rules that are really put there by the authorities in charge,” he concluded.
