  • The bust disrupts a major drug trafficking route used to funnel illicit substances out of Johannesburg.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested and R5.6 million worth of narcotics seized after police intercepted a truck travelling from Johannesburg to the Western Cape.

Acting on a specific tip-off regarding a shipment originating in Gauteng, members of the Breede River K9 Unit stopped the vehicle on the N1 near Worcester.

During the search, a police dog named Bella alerted officers to the driver’s compartment.

A subsequent inspection revealed 20 plastic containers filled with methamphetamine (Tik) hidden inside two boxes.

The discovery highlights the ongoing use of major transport corridors to move high-value illicit goods between South Africa’s economic hub and coastal cities.

The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once formal charges have been processed.
