- Two learners were killed in separate stabbing incidents in Gauteng within days of each other.
- Both incidents occurred after school hours, with one learner attacked near his school and the other while walking home.
- Authorities say investigations are underway, with motives still unclear.
Two school children have died following separate stabbing incidents in Gauteng.
It is alleged that a 17-year-old Grade 8 learner from Forest High School in Johannesburg was assaulted and stabbed on Friday, 20 March 2026, at a park near the school after hours.
In a separate incident, a Grade 12 learner from Daleview Secondary School in Ennerdale was fatally stabbed on Monday, 23 March 2026, in an open veld while walking home from school.
Both incidents follow a tragic event where a 16-year-old Grade 9 pupil died after he was allegedly stabbed by a Grade 10 learner at Badirile Secondary School in Khutsong, Carletonville.
All these unfortunate incidents have raised concerns about the safety of school learners in and outside the school premises.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona described the learners’ deaths as a tragic loss.
“This is a deeply painful loss for our education community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and both school communities affected by these tragedies. Violence against our learners, whether within or outside school premises, is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” said Mabona.
The motives behind both incidents have not yet been established, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
