Al Ahly Advance In Cup, Pitso Absent

Al Ahly have advanced to the round of 16 in the Egyptian Cup, even though Pitso Mosimane was absent from the sidelines on Sunday evening.

There had been question marks over Mosimane’s future but Al Ahly’s Executive Director Said Shalaby had come out ahead of the game and confirmed Mosimane “will stay”, insisting there are “no disputes” between the coach and board.

However, Mosimane was not on the sidelines as his side beat second division side Al Masry Salloum 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal by Ahmed Abdelkader.

Mosimane’s absence, though, was arranged before the match, as assistant coach Sami Komsan took charge of the game because the South African only arrived back in Egypt on Sunday.

Al Ahly also played the game in the absence of several first-team regulars, who are still on national team duty with their respective countries.

Percy Tau was among those players who were absent, as were Egyptian internationals Mohamed El Shenawy, Ayman Ashraf, Yasser Ibrahim, Amr El Solia and Afsha. Other internationals such as Aliou Dieng and Ali Maaloul were also not part of the squad.
