Madlanga Commission hears how Musa Khawula’s arrest was planned

Sergeant Fannie Nkosi has denied that the police force takes orders from Businessman, Ze Nxumalo, pertaining the controversial blogger Musa Khawula’s arrest.

This comes after the Madlanga Commission heard the layout planned for Musa’s arrest, allegedly funded by Ze. Sunday World reported that while giving testimony, Fannie confirmed that Ze bought six tickets (three general admissions and three VIP) for police officers to attend a music show in order for them to arrest the blogger.

Evidence leader and advocate Matthew Chaskalson, cross-examined Fannie, where it was revealed that Ze also obtained Musa’s contact card, a profiling report, a consumer trace report, and documents containing his identity details and the address from which he worked. He later obtained his warrant of arrest.

“Nxumalo purchased six tickets for members of the South African Police Service to attend a show where Khawula was expected so that officers could arrest him undercover,” he said. However, the operation failed when Musa did not pitch at the event.

This led to Madlanga Commission questioning why law enforcement appeared to take directions from a complainant.

The cross-examination also revealed that the police obtained Musa’s contact number informally from a contact he identified as ‘Natasha, SABC presenter’.
