Algerian midfielder Billel Benhammouda has sadly passed away in a car accident on Friday – a day after scoring in an international match for this country.

The 24-year-old featured for Algeria’s second team in friendly against DR Congo on Thursday, scoring a goal, but his life was sadly ended just a day later.

The USM Alger midfielder died in a car accident, as reported by The News Chronicle and confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Benhammouda’s father also confirmed the sad news to Algerian journalist Dean Ammi, saying “My son had just been granted a visa, he was going to leave USM Alger and join a club in Europe next season. Now he will join his creator instead.”

Benhammouda, who represented his country at U20, U21 and U23 level, made 30 appearances for Alger this season, scoring seven goals and setting up another four.

We, at iDiski Times, would like to send our condolences to his friends, family and everyone in the Algerian football fraternity.
