Kaizer Chiefs winger makes personal admission

The 23-year-old speedy winger arrived at Kaizer Chiefs in August with plenty of anticipation after shining at Cape Town Spurs.

His start to life at the club was delayed as Amakhosi were forced to wait until October before he could finally make his debut due to the court battle with Spurs.

ASANELE VELEBAYI AT KAIZER CHIEFS

Since then, the winger has gradually been introduced into the team and has made eight appearances across all competitions.

Velebayi has shown the dribble, speed, confidence on the ball and willingness to run directly at defenders whenever the opportunity presents itself.

However, the one thing still missing from his game in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey is the end product, with the statistics column yet to reflect his contribution in front of goal as he is still searching for his first goal or assist.

Velebayi has not shied away from that reality and openly admits that he expects more from himself as he continues to settle into life at one of the biggest clubs in South African football.

“I KNOW THE STATISTICS ARE NOT ON MY SIDE”

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Betway Premiership clash, the Phillipi-born star acknowledged that the next step in his development is improving his numbers in the final third.

“I have individual goals I set for myself and requirements from the coach,” said Velebayi.

“I know the statistics are not on my side. The goal I have set for myself is to score more. I have been trying to create but for me, now I need to score,” he added.
