  • Sibonelo Nomvalo succeeds Bongani Mncwango as the MK Party’s new Secretary General.
  • The appointment marks the eighth person to hold the administrative role in under two years.
  • Simphiwe Mpungose replaces Sibusiso Hadebe as KZN Provincial Secretary to spearhead the 2026 election campaign.

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has reshuffled its senior leadership, appointing MP Sibonelo Nomvalo as Secretary General.

Announced by party chairperson Nathi Nhleko in Umhlanga on Thursday, Nomvalo replaces Bongani Mncwango, who had held the post since August. Notably, Nomvalo becomes the eighth individual to occupy this position in less than 24 months.

The restructuring, decided during a recent meeting of national officials, aims to refine the party’s operational functions and structural integrity.

Nomvalo, who currently serves on a parliamentary ad hoc committee, is now tasked with centralising organisational management and streamlining the party’s various initiatives.

Further changes were confirmed at the provincial level, where Simphiwe Mpungose has replaced Sibusiso Hadebe as the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Secretary.

This strategic shift is intended to revitalise the party’s grassroots presence.

Nhleko emphasised that Mpungose’s primary objective is to mobilise supporters and secure a victory in the upcoming 2026 local government elections.
