Katlego Maboe warns fans against scammers
South African media personality Katlego Maboe has sounded the alarm after discovering a scam that uses artificial intelligence to impersonate him in order to deceive the public.
The television presenter recently took to Instagram Live to alert his followers about a suspicious advertisement circulating online that appears to use his likeness, voice and name to promote a scheme.
Maboe expressed frustration over the growing misuse of AI technology, warning that scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in how they exploit the trust people have in public figures.
“Be super careful. We live in an age where AI generates bot voice manipulation, and all kinds of crazy things are happening,” he said.
According to the presenter, criminals are now using advanced tools to mimic the identities of well-known personalities, making it easier to mislead unsuspecting fans.
“All of these criminals and scammers are all trying to take money from people like you by using the faces, the names, the voices and images of people that you trust, and using it to manipulate you,” he explained.
He urged his followers to remain vigilant and think twice before engaging with online offers or promotions that appear suspicious.
“If it seems too good to be true, it most likely is,” Maboe cautioned.
