Date, kickoff time, grim injury news

Kaizer Chiefs face a tricky Betway Premiership examination this weekend against fourth-placed Durban City, who they can leapfrog with a win.

Chiefs meet Durban City at FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs can climb above Durban City with a win on Sunday, 15 March and still have a game in hand on Pitso Dladla’s side after the fact. Kickoff is at 15:30.

Kaizer Chiefs injury update

If Chiefs want to claim a positive result against City, they’ll have to do so without several key first-team regulars. Given Msimango, Mfundo Vilakazi, Inácio Miguel, Etiosa Ighodaro and Brandon Petersen are all out of Sunday’s match. Now, according to reports, Nkanyiso Shinga and George Matlou will play no further part this season. To add insult to injury, Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are suspended for the upcoming clash with Pitso Dladla’s side. The Glamour Boys are on a run of three consecutive league defeats, four losses across all competitions, and they’ve only won one of their last six, against Al Masry. Upcoming tests aren’t exactly getting any easier, either.

Ngcobo is fighting for his Kaizer Chiefs future

Ironically, midfield dynamo Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is one of the few players who isn’t currently sidelined by injury. The fan-favourite and academy talent is under fire for his failure to string together consistent performances over the years. One fan said he is ‘made of glass’, in an attempt to highlight his frustrating injury-proneness, something which has led to him not managing more than 16 appearances in any of the last five Betway Premiership campaigns. This seems to contradict his nickname ‘Mshini’ in ironic fashion. Although he’s currently in the picture, his long-term future is unclear.
