BIG night in the Betway Premiership title race

The Betway Premiership title race takes centre stage on Wednesday night as South Africa’s top two sides face pivotal midweek fixtures that could shape the destiny of the crown.

Log leaders Orlando Pirates travel to Limpopo to take on Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, while defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns host Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Decisive stretch

With the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season entering its decisive stretch, the two title contenders are separated by the slimmest of margins at the summit, adding extra weight to what promises to be a dramatic evening of football.

Orlando Pirates return to action brimming with confidence after a commanding 3-0 Soweto derby triumph over Kaizer Chiefs.

The Buccaneers have been formidable this season, boasting the league’s best defensive record and an impressive run of away form that has kept them firmly in control of their title ambitions.

However, they face a Polokwane City side that has turned their home ground into a fortress.

Rise and Shine remain unbeaten at home this campaign and are fresh off a derby victory over Magesi FC.

A positive result on Wednesday could see them climb further into the top five, while simultaneously disrupting the title race.

Keep pace

In Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns will look to respond and keep pace with the leaders when they welcome Golden Arrows.

Masandawana secured a 3-1 victory over Sekhukhune United at the weekend and will be eager to overturn the defeat they suffered against Golden Arrows earlier in the season.

Golden Arrows, known for their athletic and disciplined approach, have already shown they can trouble the Brazilians and will hope to repeat that feat under the lights at Loftus Versfeld.

Kick-off for both fixtures is scheduled for 19:30, with the outcomes likely to have significant implications at both ends of the table.

With momentum, pride and precious points on the line, Wednesday night could prove to be a defining chapter in this season’s Betway Premiership title race.

Meanwhile, there are another three matches scheduled for Wednesday evening, also kicking off at 19:30.

AmaZulu FC host Magesi FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, Chippa United and Marumo Gallants will do battle at Buffalo City Stadium in East London, and Durban City will lock horns with Sekhukhune United at the Chatsworth Stadium in Chatsworth.
