- Heavy flooding in Limpopo’s Vhembe District left school learners stranded.
- Authorities have warned motorists not to cross flooded roads and damaged bridges.
- The province is still recovering from January floods that claimed over 20 lives.
School learners were left stranded on Tuesday afternoon after heavy downpours triggered widespread flooding in the Vhembe District of Limpopo.
The provincial Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged motorists and learners to avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges, and to exercise extreme caution at all times.
Affected roads and bridges include:
      • Mutele Village Tshandama Road – Flooded
      • Folovhodwe Bridge to Musina – Flooded
      • Guyuni Bridge – Broken
Drivers of bakkies and other vehicles are warned not to underestimate the strength of floodwaters. Attempting to cross low-lying bridges is highly dangerous and could prove fatal.
The latest flooding comes just a month after severe floods claimed more than 20 lives in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Several residents remain displaced after infrastructure was damaged and lives were lost in the January floods.
