Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kearyn Baccus has an overseas move lined up following the non-renewal of his contract with Amakhosi.
Baccus’ deal with Chiefs runs up at the end of the month and will not be renewed as confirmed by the club earlier on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old joined Chiefs in 2019 from Australian club Melbourne City but has failed to command a regular jersey through his time at the club.
In this past season, he featured in just 12 games.
Across his three years and 53 appearances at Chiefs, he has only played from start to finish in only five games which has exposed just how much he has battled to cope with the demands of the domestic game as a central midfielder.
He has scored twice through that time.
Prior to his arrival in South Africa, he was playing more games from start to finish in the Australian A-League with 24 of his 30 appearances in his last season Down Under with Melbourne City being full shifts.
Though his name has been rubbed off on AmaZulu and Maritzburg United he appears likely to return to Australia.
Melbourne Victory has been mentioned ahead of the pack.
Anthony Popovic – who was his coach for four years at Western Sydney, is now in charge at Melbourne Victory who were runners-up this season.
There has also been consideration of a move to Asia, but the environment and package are not better.
Baccus has been on a package that cannot be matched by any club locally of the options available for him the reality is that if he is taking a cut then it must be in the comforts of being back ‘home’ in Australia.
He was born in South Africa but grew up in Australia which he now identifies as home.
Baccus is amongst several players leaving Chiefs who include Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Cardoso, Daniel Akpeyi and Teddy Akumu has been placed on the transfer list with goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter leaving.
