The daughter of Martin Short, the actor who became famous from his role in the film Father of the Bride, died on Monday, and the 911 call about her suicide has been released.

At the age of 42, Katherine allegedly committed suicide at her home in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, the Short family confirmed Katherine’s death in a statement.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

According to People, the forensic pathologist confirmed Katherine’s death was by suicide, after the Los Angeles fire department responded to a 911 call.

A portion of the call was made public, with some criticising the release of the audio as insensitive.

Martin, 75-years-old, had three children with his late wife, Nancy. Katherine was the only daughter.

Martin rose to fame in the 1991 comedy hit Father of the Bride. He played the role of the wedding planner, Frank Eggelhoffer. He starred alongside Diane Keaton (who died in October 2025), Kimberly Williams-Paisley (54), and Steve Martin (80).
