
A KZN toddler, who would have turned three this month, was allegedly murdered by her mother.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, officers responded to a flat on Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street on Tuesday around 8 p.m. after receiving a complaint.
“On arrival, police found the body of a three-year-old girl with strangulation marks. It is alleged that the mother also assaulted the victim with a wooden rolling pin on the face and head.”
According to Gwala, the motive for the killing is unknown. “Durban Central police arrested a 33-year-old woman for murder and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, Deputy Minister of Social Development, is scheduled to visit Ikhayalethu Home for Love and Care. The centre for disabled children is in KwaNzimakwe, Port Shepstone, and was also impacted by the April floods.
