New update on the future of forgotten Orlando Pirates star

Orlando Pirates utility defender Bandile Shandu is patiently waiting to find out his fate at the club.

With his contract set to come to an end at the end of the season, all signs currently point to him leaving the club.

Unfortunately for Shandu, Abdeslam Ouaddou isn’t his biggest fan. Now, the experienced defender looks set to face a similar fate to Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Orlando Pirates defender stuck in limbo

Bandile Shandu’s agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that he’s yet to hear from Orlando Pirates regarding a contract extension for his client.

Shandu has made just two starts this season after falling out-of-favour under Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Deano Van Rooyen and Thabiso Lebitso have been preferred over Shandu, while winger Kamogelo Sebelebele has most recently become Ouaddou’s go-to right-back.

According to Makaab, all options are on the table for the experienced defender.

“Bandile Shandu is contracted to Orlando Pirates, and for us it is just to wait for the club to make a decision on the player. In this situation, they also have the first preference,” Makaab told FARPost.

“We are open to any decision from Pirates, and should they opt against renewing the contract in the coming months, we’ll be left with no choice but to look for other options for Shandu.”

Shandu still good enough for the PSL

Bandile Shandu joined Orlando Pirates from Maritzburg United in 2021.

Since joining the club, the utility defender has made 110 appearances for the club. Shandu has 11 goals and five assists to his name for Orlando Pirates.

Shandu is currently 31-years-old. He certainly has enough football to compete at a high level for the next few years. It remains to be seen if he’ll leave the club or be retained. This website will bring you the latest updates as it unfolds.
