Kaizer Chiefs saw their CAF Confederation Cup dream end in Egypt after a painful 2–1 defeat to Zamalek SC at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
Needing just a single point to reach the knockout stages, Amakhosi instead lost all possible three points.

While the exit left supporters frustrated, there is at least financial consolation. According to CAF’s official prize structure, teams that finish third or fourth in the group stage receive $400,000, approximately R6,381,580.20.
KAIZER CHIEFS DREAM ENDS IN EGYPT
Amakhosi had done the hard work to reach the group stage. They qualified for the competition after lifting the 2025 Nedbank Cup and navigated two qualifying rounds.

First, they edged Kabuscorp of Angola 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 aggregate draw. Then they beat AS Simba of DR Congo 3–1 on aggregate to book their place among the final 16.
The group stage had its highs and lows. A 2–1 opening defeat away to Al Masry, and a home 1-1 draw with Zamalek, were followed by back-to-back 1–0 wins over ZESCO United.
A crucial 2–1 home victory against Al Masry on 8 February 2026 briefly sent Kaizer Chiefs to the top of the group.
That set up a final matchday showdown in Egypt, where a draw would have been enough. Glody Lilepo’s header gave Amakhosi hope, but goals from Juan Alvina and Abdallah El Said turned the match around and sealed Kaizer Chiefs’ elimination.
Meanwhile, to return to CAF football next season, Amakhosi, who have already bowed out of the Nedbank Cup round of 32, have to finish first, second or third in the league.

First or second place will secure a place in next season’s CAF Champions League, while third place would restore the Glamour Boys in the CAF Confederation Cup.
