The impressive victory stretched Orlando Pirates’ lead at the top of the table to six points ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who sit in second place.

Mofokeng once again stole the spotlight, producing a composed assist for Yanela Mbuthuma to open the scoring before adding a well-taken goal of his own.

The performance took his tally to three goals and three assists in just three matches, underlining his growing influence in the Betway Premiership title race.

“The ship is flying, the ship is flying, not sailing,” a beaming Mokoena said on the Soccer Beat podcast. The former winger reflected on Orlando Pirates’ electric start and the growing influence of their young stars.

With confidence flowing through the squad and results backing up the belief, Mokoena painted a picture of a team moving at full steam.

PRAISE FOR RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG

He reserved special praise for Mofokeng and Mbuthuma, highlighting the understanding developing between the two attackers.

“I don’t know how a ship flies, but this one is flying. The magician [Relebohile Mofokeng] does it once again. I think he is just growing, you know.”

“I mean, three out of three, I think he’s enjoying this role of playing that number 10 position. I mean, what an assist to give Mbuthuma to score. Mbuthuma is always in that box like I’ve been saying.

“He must just hang around that box. The boys will deliver…” Mokoena added.
