 Johannesburg Nurse ‘Accidentally Shot’ By Police Officers

SAPS officers in Johannesburg have come under fire this week after a dramatic botched anti-kidnapping operation left a local nurse in need of specialist hospital treatment.

As reported by TimesLive, the cops involved in this shocking case of mistaken identity have been dubbed “arrogant cowboys” due to their gung-ho approach, and several additional details on the case have been made public:

  • The nurse in question was driving home from work, late in the evening.
  • Elite SAPS officials mistook her car for one used by a local kidnapping ring.
  • The police officers opened fire on the wrong vehicle.
  • It has been confirmed that the nurse WAS hit by a bullet, and she has been left ‘seriously injured’.
  • There were two people in the car – a mother and her daughter.
  • An investigation into the senior law enforcement officials has now got underway.

Meanwhile, narcotics squads in Johannesburg appeared to have had better luck during their specialized crackdown: two suspects, aged 41 and 45, were arrested in Douglasdale after being discovered with drugs worth millions of rands.

The suspects are expected to appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court in due course, charged with drug possession and dealing. Officers from Douglasdale were on routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious-looking car with two occupants.

The car came to a halt. During their search, police discovered more than eight bricks of uncut cocaine. Both suspects were arrested and charged with drug possession and trafficking.
