Kaizer Chiefs Announce Arthur Zwane As Their New Coach

Arthur Zwane has been named as the new full-time coach of the Kaizer Chiefs. On Thursday morning, the announcement was made at the Chiefs’ headquarters in Naturena.

Zwane, who signed a three-year contract with the Chiefs, takes over for head coach Stuart Baxter, who left the club last month. Dillon Sheppard will assist him.

Ex-Chiefs winger Zwane, 48, who began his coaching career with Amakhosi’s development program, has served as caretaker coach three times in the last two years, along with fellow assistant Sheppard.

After Gavin Hunt was fired late in the 2020-2021 season, the duo won the Chiefs’ final two DStv Premiership games, ensuring a top-eight finish, and led the team through the Caf Champions League semifinals to its first-ever final of the continental showpiece.

They also won two and drew one of three league games with a severely depleted squad when Baxter was isolated at Chiefs in December due to an outbreak of Covid-19.

The Chiefs finished fourth in the Premiership in 2021-22, but their position is likely to worsen as the Orlando Pirates finish their season late with two more games due to the Bucs’ participation in the Caf Confederation Cup final.

Zwane coached a number of Chiefs players in their development, and they are said to adore the disciplinarian, straight-talking coach.
