Both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have enjoyed promising starts to the season, with the two Soweto giants both very much in the running for the Betway Premiership title.
Pirates currently top the league log, while Chiefs sit in third – five points behind the Buccaneers – while Mamelodi Sundowns find themselves sandwiched in between.
Chiefs and Pirates will go head to head on 28 February, and after tickets went on sale – with prices ranging from R120 to R320 – it took no time at all for them to be snapped up.
Kaizer Chiefs confirm sell out for Pirates derby
According to a statement released by Chiefs on Wednesday, demand for tickets “was overwhelming”, and a sell out was confirmed in “record time both online and at retail outlets”.
“Fans can expect a thrilling encounter, given the strong performances of both teams in the league and Amakhosi’s impressive run in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” the press release read.
“Supporters who secured tickets are strongly encouraged to arrive early at the stadium to enjoy the exciting activations and entertainment planned by Kaizer Chiefs and their sponsors. Early arrivals will also stand a chance to win fantastic prizes on the day.
“Those without tickets are urged to watch the match from home with family and friends. For safety reasons, supporters are advised not to gather near the stadium, as security will be on high alert.”
