Motaung happy with Chiefs’ CAF Confed journey but…

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has applauded the team’s performance in the CAF Confederations Cup but also warned about complacency.

Amakhosi need just a point to secure qualification to the knockout round, having beaten Al Masry 1-0 at home. The win puts the Soweto giants top of their group with one match remaining.

Defeat in Egypt against Zamalek might see them finish third if Al Masry edges Zesco United by two or more goals.

Motaung feels Chiefs are much closer to the quarter-finals and cautioned his team ahead of the trip to Egypt.

“Hard-fought three points to take us where we wanna be, we’re one step closer,” Motaung Jr told SABC Sport.

“There’s still a lot of work to do, the permutations can go different kind of ways next, so there’s a big job for us to do when we get to Egypt.”

Motaung gives credit to Chiefs players and coaches

Amakhosi are still in the hunt for the Betway Premiership but their main focus this weekend will be to reach the knockout round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Motaung knows this could be Chiefs’ best opportunity to win silverware this season.

“I think the planning behind the strategy for this opposition, credit must go to the players who fight and give everything on the field, the technical staff are giving everything they can, and the Chairman and board in terms of support and logistics, supporting us on our travels. So there’s a collective effort, big job next week,” Motaung added.
