Asekho Tiwani may have joined Stellenbosch FC on loan for the remainder of the season, but his long-term future remains at Mamelodi Sundowns. The left-back slipped down the pecking order at Sundowns, with Divine Lunga and Aubrey Modiba preferred in his position.
The emergence of Thato Sibiya further limited his chances of regular game time, prompting the club’s management to sanction a loan move in order for him to gain match fitness and experience.

Tiwani joined the Brazilians from Sekhukhune United on a long-term contract in 2024 and made a positive early impression. However, injuries have stalled his progress at Chloorkop, preventing him from building momentum during a crucial stage of his development.
Before his switch to Stellenbosch, the 20-year-old failed to make a single appearance for Sundowns in the 2025–26 season, fuelling speculation over whether he had a long-term future at the Betway Premiership champions.
“Look, he was injured for a long time and this move to Stellenbosch doesn’t mean he won’t come back at Sundowns,” a source close to the club said.
“Management felt that we needed game time having been out for some time with an injury. Trust me, he still has a future at the club and he will get his chance next season.”
The loan move is viewed as an opportunity for Tiwani to rediscover his rhythm and confidence, with Sundowns monitoring his progress closely ahead of the new campaign.

Tiwani was also part of South Africa’s squad at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where he featured in all four matches of their campaign. Amajita’s campaign came to an end with a 3-1 defeat to Colombia in the round of 16.
