  • Lesetja Senona says he is in a place of safety after being removed from his office and allegedly followed by police vehicles.
  • He claims the move was ordered by Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and fears for his life.
  • Meanwhile, the Madlanga Commission continues hearing testimony over alleged ballistic report errors in the Armand Swart murder case.

The lawyers of KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona say their client is not hiding, but he’s in a place of safety following media reports that he had gone into hiding over fears for his life.

Senona claims he was removed from his office and had his gadgets seized after returning to work following his testimony at the Madlanga Commission.

He alleges the move was ordered by Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, a claim supported by his legal team.

Senona says his life is in danger, alleging that after being forced out of his office, he was followed home by marked police vehicles.

He is among several law enforcement officials referred for investigation by the Madlanga Commission for being implicated during proceedings.

The KZN Hawks head was also grilled at the commission over alleged links to suspected crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Meanwhile, the commission is expected to hear testimony on Monday from ballistic expert Laurance Makgotloe, who is accused of making errors in the ballistic report linked to Armand Swart’s murder case.

Swart, an employee at Q Tech Engineering in Vereeniging, was gunned down on 17 April 2024 while seated in his vehicle outside his workplace.

Makgotloe began his testimony by explaining how he received a call on the day of Swart’s murder.

Last year, the commission heard that the original report was riddled with errors and had to be rewritten several times by the same analyst, with the mistakes defended as typos.

SAPS Ballistics expert Brigadier Mishak Mkhabela also testified that the omission of 15 AK-47 cartridges from the report was a typing error rather than evidence of interference.
