Ukhozi FM announces passing of former presenter and technical producer Mandla “Njinji” Magwaza

Ukhozi FM has confirmed the passing of one of its former presenters and technical producers, Mandla Magwaza, fondly known to listeners as Njinji.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based radio station shared the sad news on its official Instagram page, informing listeners that the respected broadcaster and behind-the-scenes creative had passed away on Saturday, 24 January 2026.

While the cause of death has not been disclosed, the announcement deeply moved fans, colleagues and friends who remembered Njinji as a gifted and dedicated talent.

In its statement, the station paid tribute to Magwaza’s contribution to Ukhozi FM and his impact on the audience he served.

“Ukhozi FM wishes to inform you about the death of one of our former presenters who was also a Technical Producer, Mandla Magwaza, who was affectionately known as Njinji,” the station wrote.

“We would like to send our condolences to the Magwaza family, his friends, his colleagues and his fans who are fans of Ukhozi FM.”

The tribute also highlighted his roots and character, describing him as “a proud man from Mahlabuyalingana,” before adding: “You fought a good fight. Rest in peace, Mabhulubhense.”

Following the announcement, social media platforms were flooded with messages honouring Njinji’s legacy, with many recalling his passion, creativity and the warmth he brought to radio, both on air and behind the scenes.
