CAF slams ‘unacceptable’ chaos following Morocco 2025 final

CAF has officially condemned “unacceptable” aggression displayed by players and staff during the AFCON 2025 final.
Investigations are specifically focused on abuse directed at the refereeing team and tournament organisers.
Disciplinary bodies are currently reviewing match footage, with significant suspensions and fines expected for those identified.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has launched an urgent investigation into the “unacceptable behaviour” that marred last night’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Morocco and Senegal.

While Morocco celebrated a historic victory on home soil, the match was overshadowed by aggressive confrontations targeting match officials and organisers.

In a scathing statement, CAF condemned the conduct of specific players and officials, signalling a potential wave of heavy sanctions.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night.

CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers.

CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.” read the statement

The governing body has made it clear that the prestige of the final will not shield offenders from accountability. “CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour… especially those targeting the refereeing team,” the organisation noted, stressing that the integrity of the game remains paramount.

As the footballing world awaits the footage review, the controversy threatens to stain what was otherwise a landmark tournament for North African football.

All eyes now turn to the CAF Disciplinary Board to see if they will impose the “appropriate action” promised against the guilty parties.
