  • CoGTA Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa will visit flood-affected communities in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
  • Heavy rains have damaged infrastructure, displaced households and disrupted essential services across the province.
  • The visit aims to assess the damage and review ongoing relief efforts.

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Velenkosini Hlabisa, will on Saturday visit thousands of flood victims in Mpumalanga.

Several communities across the province were left devastated this week after heavy rains and flooding caused widespread damage and disrupted essential services.

For many children who were due to start school for the first time, the severe weather conditions prevented the beginning of the academic year.

The floods damaged critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges and community facilities, while numerous households were displaced and livelihoods disrupted.

Access to basic services has been affected, with increased safety risks for communities living in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Hlabisa’s visit forms part of government’s coordinated response to the disaster and aims to assess the full extent of the damage.

He is also expected to engage directly with affected communities and evaluate the effectiveness of relief and response measures currently being implemented.
