Five arrested following brutal murder of two missing women near Orange Farm

Gauteng police have arrested five suspects following the kidnapping and murder of two women whose bodies were discovered in Poortjie on 8 January.
The arrests were made across Evaton and Germiston following an intelligence-led operation that also recovered an unlicensed firearm and the victims’ hijacked vehicle.
All five individuals are scheduled to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on 15 January as forensic and ballistic investigations continue.

Five suspects have been apprehended by Gauteng police following the kidnapping and murder of two women whose bodies were discovered on a plot in Poortjie, near Orange Farm, on 8 January.

The arrests follow an intensive investigation launched after the victims went missing earlier this month.

Acting on intelligence, officers conducted a coordinated raid on 13 January, arresting four suspects in Evaton and a fifth in Germiston.

During the operation, police recovered an unlicensed firearm, which will now undergo ballistic testing to establish whether it was the weapon used in the murders.

The victims’ vehicle was later traced to a car wash in Brits, where it had been abandoned.

Although the suspects had fitted the car with false number plates, detectives successfully identified the vehicle through its original licence disc.

The five men are set to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on 15 January. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has welcomed the breakthrough as forensic investigations continue.
