Oscar Mabuyane has been re-elected as the Eastern Cape chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC).
This after defeating his opponent, Babalo Madikizela, at the provincial elective conference of the ruling party. His victory follows a tense campaign marked by several disputes over branch membership formations, court injunctions, and even deadly attacks on members.

Mabuyane was easily victorious, defeating Madikizela by a wide margin. Mabuyane’s allies were elected alongside him in a winner-take-all event. Mlungisi Mvoko is the new deputy chairperson of the ANC in the Eastern Cape.
Provincial Secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi has been elected. Helen Sauls-August will be his deputy. Zolile Williams, the new provincial treasurer, is expected to leave his position as municipal manager in Joe Gqabi.
