  • Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has urged top matric achievers to maintain the discipline that led to their success.
  • She addressed learners at a ministerial breakfast held ahead of the release of the 2025 matric results.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has encouraged top achievers from the matric Class of 2025 to carry forward the discipline that helped them attain exceptional Grade 12 results.

Gwarube was speaking at a ministerial breakfast held in honour of the top-performing pupils of the Class of 2025. A total of 40 pupils, accompanied by their parents, were invited to the MTN Innovation Centre in Johannesburg on Monday.

The event comes ahead of the official release of the National Senior Certificate results later this evening.

At the breakfast, Gwarube praised the pupils for not allowing personal challenges to hinder their academic success, saying the country needs not only their skills, but also their character.

She also announced the introduction of a new category this year, the Top Accounting Learner of the Year. The recipient of the award will be revealed on Monday evening.

The Class of 2025 is set to receive its results on Tuesday, with the Minister expected to announce the overall public school pass rate later tonight.
