  • Monnapule Saleng has joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Orlando Pirates.
  • The signing has drawn mixed reactions from fans, with Pirates supporters lamenting his departure and Sundowns fans celebrating his arrival.
  • Saleng impressed on loan at Orbit College, where he contributed two goals and three assists and was named captain.

Former Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng has completed a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, joining the Tshwane giants ahead of the second half of the season.

The Betway Premiership champions announced the signing on their social media platforms on Friday evening, welcoming the midfielder to the club.

“Masandawana is proud to welcome midfielder Monnapule Saleng to the club,” the team said.

“Masandawana, meet our latest arrival, Monnapule Saleng. Pace, power, and pure ambition as he joins the Home of the Champions.”

The move has sparked mixed reactions among South African football fans. While many Orlando Pirates supporters believe the Buccaneers have lost one of their best players, Sundowns fans have warmly welcomed Saleng’s arrival.

Saleng spent the first half of the 2025/26 season away from Pirates on loan at Orbit College, where he scored two goals and provided three assists in 11 league appearances.

The 27-year-old was also handed the captain’s armband at Orbit College despite being on a short-term loan.
