Another GBV incident shocks Mpumalanga as husband kills wife

- A 37-year-old woman was killed in an alleged domestic violence incident in Mpumalanga, with her 45-year-old husband arrested for murder.
- Police say the victim was assaulted with a wooden stick and was found dead at the scene.
- SAPS leadership has condemned the incident and expressed concern over the increasing cases of gender-based violence.
Another gender-based violence (GBV) incident has rocked Mpumalanga, where a 45-year-old man allegedly killed his 37-year-old wife on Thursday, 8 January 2026.
The suspect has since been arrested and faces charges of murder and domestic violence.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane said police received a complaint about a woman who had allegedly been assaulted with a wooden stick by her husband.
“Officers responded swiftly and, upon arrival at the scene, were led to a room where the victim was found lying on the floor with no signs of life,” said Ndubane.
The victim was declared dead by Emergency Medical Services at the scene.
The suspect later handed himself over to police on the same day and was immediately arrested. Ndubane said the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed serious concern over the rising number of domestic violence incidents.
He reiterated that gender-based violence remains a major challenge in the country and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.
