Breaking up of a family is what’s hard

Jennifer Garner has spoken about what she went through when her public divorce from actor Ben Affleck happened.

This is the first time Garner has opened up since she vowed not to talk publicly about the split.

Garner was interviewed by Marie Claire UK, where she candidly spoke about her approach through the hard times in her life as a public figure.

She told Marie Claire that navigating public interest in her children and her private life has been “tricky for me and tricky for my family,” she says. Garner protects her peace by refusing to engage with tabloid coverage.

“It doesn’t serve me to take in gossip about myself or anyone else, much less my kids, so I don’t do it.”

That approach insulated her through her and Affleck’s very public breakup in 2015, after 10 years of marriage.

“You have to be smart about what you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there. But what was out there was not what was hard,” Garner told the magazine.

“The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard,” said Garner.

Garner and Affleck had three children together before splitting up.

Affleck went on to rekindle his relationship with Jennifer Lopez, but has since divorced Lopez.
