The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) has warned applicants and the public about fraudulent activities targeting its firefighter recruitment process.
In a statement issued on Friday, 9 January 2026, CoJEMS confirmed that it is currently conducting interviews and physical fitness assessments as part of its recruitment.
The EMS cautioned that it does not charge or request any payment for employment opportunities.
“The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services does not charge, demand, or request any form of payment for employment opportunities, recruitment processes, interviews, or placements.
“No City official, employee, or representative is authorised to solicit money or any other benefit in exchange for employment or preferential treatment during the recruitment process,” the statement read.
EMS encourages all applicants to rely solely on official City communication platforms for accurate information.
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected fraud to the Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline at 0800 002 587.
