  • Bafana Bafana were knocked out of the 2025 AFCON after a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon on Sunday night.
  • The loss ended South Africa’s hopes of a second continental title and exposed defensive weaknesses throughout the tournament.
  • Cameroon advance to face host nation Morocco in the next round.

Bafana Bafana’s journey at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations came to a painful end on Sunday evening following a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon.

The result left South African soccer fans divided, with many expressing deep disappointment, while others shared messages of encouragement for a team that fought its way deep into the tournament.

The loss dashed Bafana’s hopes of lifting a second AFCON title, bringing their campaign to a close and shifting focus to rebuilding ahead of future competitions, including the World Cup qualifiers.

For head coach Hugo Broos and his squad, the tournament proved a harsh reminder of how unforgiving knockout football can be.

Across their four matches, Bafana’s performances highlighted key shortcomings, particularly in defence, where they conceded too many goals.

On Sunday night, they were especially troubled by Cameroon’s attacking duo, Christian Kofane of Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Cameroon will now go on to face host nation Morocco in the next round.
