Sundowns reportedly paid Independiente over R57 million for the striker.

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly signed Colombian striker Brayan León from Independiente Medellín in a deal worth over R50 million.

According to well-known Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leon will join the Brazilians for a $3.5 million (just over R57 million) package plus sell-on clause.

“After fullback Juan Arizala sold to Udinese as revealed last week, Independiente Medellin prepared one more sale,” wrote Romano on X.

“Brayan Leon leaves the club to join Mamelodi Sundowns for a $3.5m package plus sell-on clause.”

The 25-year-old joins Sundowns after scoring 13 goals and making 11 assists for Medellin last season. Overall, at Independiente Medellín, Leon played 141 matches, scored 33 goals and registered 17 assists.

He becomes the club’s first January signing, as the Brazilians look to strengthen their squad ahead of the second leg of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

León’s arrival at Chloorkop means the club has filled up their foreign spots in the squad and it also means there will be no space for midfielder Matias Esquivel who returns from his short stint on loan at Greek side AE Kifisia FC.

The other foreign spots at Sundowns are occupied by Marcelo Allende, Arthur Sales, Miguel Reisinho and Nuno Santos.
